November 1: UConn Career Night for Agriculture, Environment and Health Careers

UConn Career Night for Agriculture, Environment and Health Careers: All high school aged 4-Hers are invited to participate in a special informational session on Wednesday, November 1st in the W.B. Young Building on the UConn campus in Storrs. From 5:00-6:00pm there will be an informational sessions for high school students and parents. This session will be followed up by a special reception where participants can meet with college alumni and business representatives. Please click here for flyer with full details.

November 4: CT 4-H Adventures in STEM Day:

 Registration due Oct 20 (see above). This event is open to anyone between the ages of 12-18 years old. Learn through a series of hands-on workshops, eat in a real college dining hall and experience a bit more about the UConn campus and some of the amazing students who call it home. 

November 10: 4-H STEAM program. Science Technology Engineering Art and Math: 6:30-8pm  TAC room 3

Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math = STEAM. This program meets once per month and the focus is use a STEM principle to create something that can be entered in the 4-H Fair Activity Building .   

The State 4-H Horse Dates are as follows:

  • Horse Advisory Committee meetings: 11/16/17, 1/18/18, 2/15/18, 3/15/18, 4/19/18, 5/17/18, 6/21/18

Past Event Descriptions

October 11 Fair Board of Directors and Advisors, Fairboard Orientation: deadline to apply is October 2. Fairboard Applications: go to Forms page  

Fairboard Orientation: On the second Wednesday of October each year, new and returning Tolland County 4-H Fairboard meet, in the Gold Building at TAC, to learn about the business and entrepeneurial skills while running the annual Tolland County 4-H Fair. An Advisor's meeting starts at 6:00pm followed by the Fairboard meeting at 6:45. The meetings typically go as late as 9:00pm.

There are up to 30 youth Board of Directors and up to 12 adult Advisors. There are also Jr. Advisors who are fairboard members who have aged out of serving on the board but are not yet 21 years old.
There are 9 fair committees: Activity Building; Entries and Tallies; Grounds and Safety; Horse and Dog Show; Judges, Stewards and Superintendents; Kitchen; Programs; Publicity; Ribbons and Trophies;  

During the orientation there will be teambuilding and networking stratigies taught that will prepare the youth and adult partnership that helps make the Tolland County 4-H Fair a big success in a small local county fair.  


October 4-15: Tractor Supply Paper Clover 4-H Fundraiser:  


Tractor Supply Paper Clover 4-H Fundraiser: This is the Fall Campaign. Twice each year Tractor Supply raises money to help fund  4-H youth leadership programming. During the Paper Clover Campign cashiers ask customers at check out if they'd like to buy a paper clover for $1. When there is a 4-H presence on site during the campaign people learn about 4-H and give more generously. 

Win $100 for your club and help out at Tractor Supply during the Paper Clover Campaign. 

  • Not only will this help donations and improve their relationship with their local store, they will also have the opportunity to enter the Paper Clover Participation Sweepstakes, where 75 clubs will win a $100 TSC gift card.
  • The 4-H offices work with their local Tractor Supply stores to make this a fun and successful fund raising event. We will have a poster in the store highlighting Tolland County 4-H and brochures to keep infoormation about 4-H in the store; but nothing is as impactful as face to face communication about the benefits of the 4-H program.

October 14: Tolland County 4-H Awards and Recognition Night and Fair Association Annual Meeting

Tolland County 4-H Awards and Recognition Night and Fair Association Annual Meeting: Starting at 6:00pm, this is the Fair Associations annual meeting. We will be voting on the new Board of Directors, Advisors and Budgets. This year we allso have a vote on two amentments to the by-laws.
We will also recognized all our wonderful accomplishments from the past year, have a meal together and have a free prize drawing.

October 14: 4-H National Youth Science Day (NYSD) at the Vernon Tractor Supply 10-2

Stop by Tractor Supply during the paper clover campaign to learn about 4-H STEM programs and the 4-H National Youth Science Day experiment and show your support.

4-H NYSD is more than just a single day. It is a catalyst that ignites in youth a spark of interest in STEM. 

October 14: Sheep Shearing School UConn Storrs campus

Sheep Shearing School
Do you work with a sheep project? Want to learn how to shear a sheep? If so this day long program is for YOU! This one day Sheep Shearing School will take place on Saturday, October 14th from 8:00am-4:30pm at the UConn Beef barn on the UConn Storrs campus. If interested click here flyer for full details.
